Project KASALO
Kalinga at Saya para kay Lolo at Lola
A comprehensive geriatric support initiative funded through a District Grant, the project was a collaborative effort led by the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Mandaluyong West alongside corporate and community partners. The intervention was designed based on direct community assessments, ensuring that the resources provided specifically addressed the most critical needs of the residents and their caregivers.
The project significantly enhanced the residents' quality of life by providing essential medical equipment, including hospital beds, TENS machines for pain management, and glucometers for consistent health monitoring. Beyond these durable assets, the team supplied bulk quantities of hygiene and sanitation products to support daily clinical care. Rotaractors further contributed through direct nursing interventions, such as vital signs monitoring, while the Philippine Bible Society provided spiritual resources to nourish the emotional well-being of both the elderly and their caretakers.
Beyond the clinical support, Project Kasalo focused on deep human connection and the spirit of "Kalinga." The mission transitioned from a service turnover into a vibrant social gathering, highlighted by residents and volunteers singing and dancing together. This emotional engagement addressed the isolation often felt in institutional care, creating a day of genuine joy and "Saya." By combining sustainable medical infrastructure with heartfelt social interaction, the project provided a holistic model of care for the abandoned elderly community.
